Real Estate License Revalidation and Mutual Agreements With Louisiana

Mandatory Post-Licensing Education in Louisiana
Active salesperson licensees must complete 45 hours of post-licensing education through an approved school within their first 180 days of initial licensure.4 These advanced courses cover topics like contracts, agency law, advertising regulations, commercial real estate, and property management.
Completing post-licensing education is required to receive your permanent license certificate. Some pre-licensing packages include these 45 hours so be sure to enquire. Note that this is not continuing education.
License Renewal
Louisiana real estate licenses must be renewed every 2 years by between August 1 and September 30.
- October 1–November 15 ($50 delinquent fee for active and inactive licensees)
- November 16–December 31 ($50 delinquent fee for inactive licensees; $200 delinquent fee for active licensees)
Current licensees don’t need to pass the background check but must complete continuing education by December 31.
Active license renewal fees are paid to LREC. Submit your renewal application and fee through your MyLREC portal.5 Additionally, make sure you keep your contact information, including email, up to date.
Continuing Education
Active real estate agents in Louisiana need 12 hours of LREC-approved continuing education annually including a mandatory topics class specified by the Commission.6
